The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team is currently as good or better than they have ever been. On Friday night, feb. 19, 2010 they beat Ohio State by a score of 36-3. Extending their win streak to 60 in a row. This kind of success is unheard of in the sport of folkstyle wrestling. This is made possible in part by their ability to execute to perfection the fundamental folkstyle wrestling moves. One of the best ways for young wrestlers to learn to be better wrestlers is through interactive multimedia training tools like Championship Access Folkstyle Wrestling.
About 20 years ago Michael Clapier had an idea. He wanted to make wrestling easier to teach and easier to learn for coaches, parents and wrestlers. He new that interaction between video with multiple angles would teach kids folkstyle wrestling moves better than any other coaching tool. There was only one problem. The technology did not exist to make Michael’s dream a reality.
So Michael continued to learn the sport by coaching and officiating high school and youth wrestling. Then about 12 years ago technology started to catch up and over the next five years Michael and his team created Championship Access Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling.
Championship Access Folkstyle Wrestling is the only truly interactive wrestling dvds or videos on the market today. Michael Clapier, creator of Championship Access, said, “By coupling the technology of camera, motion, multiple angles and now DVD technology. We have created for you what I think is the finest coaching tool today.”
Championship Access has created 16 wrestling training discs. Michael now resides in Salt Lake City Utah where he continues to coach folkstyle wrestling. Michael’s son started using Championship Access Folkstyle wrestling since he was a kid and recently won the Utah high school state wrestling championships at 140 pounds in the 5 A classification.
“Wrestling has given so much to us that we wanted to give back to the sport and make some of the skills taught in Championship Access Wrestling Training DVDs available to the wrestling community for free online,” Curt Clapier, Director of Marketing, Sports Training Media.
I know that soccer (UK football) is a much, much older game then American football. I am wondering why both Americans and Europeans lay claim to the word “football”- and for different games! (Not to mention, American football has a lot less to do with feet than European football).

There are many valuable youth baseball conditioning techniques to increase your players’ abilities by maximizing their strength, range of motion, and flexibility. Just as a car can only travel as fast as its engine will allow, in like manner, baseball players can only perform to the degree that their bodies will allow. If coaches, parents and mentors ensure that their players are involved in recommended youth baseball conditioning training, they will be increasing their players’ chances to fulfil their maximum potential.
Here are some advised youth baseball conditioning techniques that are recommended for youth baseball coaches for the development of their players:
Pitching Better through Swimming - Swimming can actually strengthen the shoulder muscles and enable pitchers to throw the baseball harder while protecting pitchers from devastating shoulder injuries. It is recommended that pitchers swim in free style for two minutes with a series of 4 repetitions. If the player can not swim, then the pitcher can stand waist deep in water under adult supervision and push the water away from the body with a hard thrust and fingers spread apart. This should be repeated for 2 minutes at a time.
Sprint to Success - One of the traditional youth baseball training programs remains the best. Players need to build up their endurance in order to play the entire game with strength and energy. Wind sprints are the best way for youth baseball players to build up their endurance and, at the same time, bond with their teammates. If your players run wind sprints as a team or in bunches, such as pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders, you will be building up their endurance and the team will become closer as a unit. Ten 60 yard sprints are a good way to start, and you can lengthen the distance and repetitions over time.
Squeeze that Ball -Another simple youth baseball conditioning exercise can be done everywhere from the ball field to the schoolyard and even to bed. Baseball players can increase their wrist strength by squeezing a rubber Spalding ball. Yes, these pink balls are still of infinite value to baseball players – pitchers, to increase the speed of their pitch; hitters by increasing their bat speed and, therefore, the distance of their drives; and fielders by increasing the strength of their throws.
Stretch Before Games – Stretching and warm-ups are a key element of baseball conditioning training protocols to prevent injuries. Prior to every game and practice, baseball coaches should lead their team in a regular series of stretching and warm-up exercises for at least 10-12 minutes. Before the players begin playing baseball, make sure to cover all major muscle groups including shoulders, legs, arms, hips, and back.
Of course these are just a few, simple youth baseball conditioning exercises among many. Baseball coaches should be familiar with a wide variety of exercises and should weave these into a more holistic conditioning training plan that is appropriate to the age of their players.
Combined with a variety of baseball drills that make the game fun and build the fundamental skills needed to play, a strong baseball conditioning training regimen will ensure that players reach the top of their game and avoid unnecessary injury.

The Ultimate Fighting Championships are filled with a lot of big, tough men, with Tim Sylvia being a prime example of their ranks. Though he’s made several missteps in his mixed martial arts career and suffered from personal setbacks and injury, he’s still making an effort to bounce back and be a serious competitor stepping into the Octagon. Sylvia has had to deal with severe physical injury, notably in the form of back problems, along with his past mistakes. By now, however, he is hoping to make up for lost time as he poises himself to return in UFC 77, where he is set to face Brandon Vera, a younger fighter who has yet to be beaten.
Sylvia has a professional MMA record of 23 wins and three losses, which he earned even while dealing with a severe back ailment. He had three bulging discs in his back which often caused him pain, yet he kept putting corrective surgery off and telling himself that it could wait. He emerged the victor in a match against Victor Rodriguez back in 2003, and continued to defend his title belt in another bout. However, in the wake of another triumph versus Gan McGee, Sylvia was found to test positive for illegal and forbidden substance abuse. This led to the fighter having his title taken away from him.
In a further downturn, he broke his arm in a match against Frank Mir, and had also had a harder time in facing contenders such as Andrei Arlovski, Jeff Monson, and Randy Couture. After his loss to Couture at UFC 68, he decided that the pain his back was giving him was too much and he had to finally undergo surgery. Sylvia even admitted to crying himself to sleep at night because of the pain, and says he realized he was fighting for the wrong reason, which was mainly money. Even though he lost to Couture, he says the fight was a learning experience for him, and he still holds his fellow MMA fighter in high regard.
